Friday Fun Picks! 10/14/2005

Introducing a new feature on Aliens in the Desert, Friday Fun Picks! So here it is, Friday afternoon. You’ve had a long week and are ready to be anywhere but at work. Fortunately for you, I spend a good part of my week combing games on the internet for inspiration, and now I will share my favorites. Play away the rest of your Friday, but don’t let your boss catch you! Blix Even before I knew a damn thing about GameLab, I loved Blix. This is a fantastic simple concept with endless variation. Your little square ball (?) flies around a grid, and you direct it by clicking to place bumpers. Direct your ball into the cup in the middle to go to the next level. Featuring an awesome techno-y soundtrack and gameplay that never gets old. TriJinx I discovered TriJinx last week while doing some research. And it is fabulous. The story in adventure mode is almost cute, but is mostly just dorky and irritating as it distracts from the fantastic game. This is an action-puzzle game which I at first looked at and thought “whatever, it’s just some stuff falling from the sky/color matching game”. But the first time I rotated the board and all the little triangles came shuffling down with their own gravity, I knew this was something special. Watch out, the higher levels can be very tricky! Urban Dead The world has been taken over by zombies! Try to survive in this post-apocalyptic turn based MiMORPG (Mini-Multiplayer-Online-RPG). Work with others to find safehouses and help your fellow man, or else become one of the shuffling hordes. Although I don’t think the game is very fun when you are a zombie, when you are a survivor it can be very tense and exciting. A bonus is that the game can be played for five minutes at a time, at different intervals during the day. Enjoy your Friday!
